Laura Hammonds

Poet

I have been lucky enough to make art.  For me, art is therapy.  Art is my lens.  Art is how I process the world.  My book of poetry, Finished Canvases: A Collection of Poetry, is available where books are sold.  I just finished cowriting a book with Dr Kimberlie J Warren, PhD. about my experiences with bipolar disorder.  That book will be available soon.  A book of essays, poetry, stories and a play will be available by the end of the year.  My publisher, From the Prairie Publications, could not be more supportive of my work.  Most of my poetry is about my inner world and the disparities I see outside of it.  The rest of my poems are silly.  I paint and draw for an interior space as well.  I am often shocked at what comes to the surface.  I give all my visual work away to friends and family because I am not really fond of it.  They love them.  My mom has fifteen of my loud paintings in her dining room, which is now very colorful.  I've given other friends drawings they liked, and went to their homes, and saw the drawing on the wall, and thought, 'You framed that?'
